Why second-hand paint shop equipment

Paint shop equipment is long-lived: a booth or oven with a sound structure can run for more than twenty years. Plants, however, are often disposed of while still serviceable, because of a product change, a capacity increase or a relocation.

This creates a genuine option, particularly for businesses that wish to increase capacity in stages or wish to make a first investment on a limited budget .

What to check on second-hand equipment

The age of the equipment alone is not decisive. What really matters:

• Structure and insulation condition — panel deformation, seal and insulation loss; in ovens this directly affects energy consumption
• Ventilation components — fan balance, duct corrosion, integrity of filter housings
• Electrical and automation — age of the control panel, whether the PLC is a supported model, spare parts availability
• Safety interlocks — purge cycle and gas detection, particularly in solvent-based applications; compliance with current regulations may be required
• Dismantling and reassembly — risk of damage during transport and the cost of recommissioning

Whether the equipment suits the part dimensions and cycle time of your new plant is a separate assessment. Buying unsuitable equipment cheaply can slow down the entire line.
