Zone-1 Industrial Lighting

Paint shop lighting does two separate jobs, and their requirements are not the same: illuminating the working area, and making surface defects visible.

How the process works

For general lighting the aim is an adequate and even illuminance. For inspection lighting the aim is to reveal the defect; this requires light to strike the surface at a shallow angle and to be distributed without shadows.

In areas where colour is assessed, the colour temperature and colour rendering index of the luminaires must be selected to standard. Where different luminaires mix, colour decisions become unreliable.

Luminaires inside a paint booth must comply with the ATEX zone classification. This is one of the most expensive choices to change later.
