Chemosil Coating

A durable bond between metal and rubber depends on the primer between them. On parts such as vibration mounts, bellows and seals, failure of this bond means direct product failure.

How the process works

The primer’s job is to bond two different materials chemically. For this to work, coating thickness must stay within a narrow tolerance band: applied too thin it weakens the bond, applied too thick it causes the primer to fail within itself.

Surface preparation is at least as decisive as the primer. Applied over oil and oxide on the metal, the primer does not adhere itself and therefore cannot establish the bond either.

Drying and curing conditions are strictly controlled to the material data sheet; parts that fall outside the curing window cause problems at the vulcanisation stage.
