In the defence industry part sizes and coating requirements fall outside the standard. Across a wide range from armoured hulls to rocket components, the work is usually low-volume but held to demanding specifications.
Process requirements of the sector
In large-volume booths the real engineering problem is access. Platform and lift systems are designed as part of the booth so that operators can safely reach every point of the part.
In low-volume production the economics of automation work differently. A robot investment is usually not justified; instead the booth is designed to make manual application possible under the best conditions.
Special coating systems (camouflage, IR reflectance, wear resistance) may require drying and ventilation regimes different from standard paint lines.
